Grass-Fed Beef

Our beef is the best of both worlds - all the flavor and nutritional quality of grass-fed beef without any of the off-flavor. While most grass-fed beef you can buy in a grocery store is deliberately marketed for its lean character, our beef cows have been carefully selected for their unique genetic ability to marble on nothing but grass. When it comes to food quality, we won't compromise and you shouldn't have to either.

Taste the Difference

100% Grass Fed

Our beef is always grass fed and finished. We provide them with grass in the summer and high quality hay in the winter. Because we live in a mild climate, we have no need to barn our cows in the winter, allowing them to have access to our diverse pastures all year long. Because we are 100% grass-fed, our beef has a higher quantity of Omega-3 fatty acids than grain-fed beef and a much higher concentration of micro-nutrients, ensuring that you get the most out of every bite.

100% Grass Finished

We've selected the American Milking Devon for the breed's unique ability to marble on grass alone. Closely related to the modern Waygu cow, Devon cows will put on intermuscular fat, resulting in rich, decadent steaks and flavorful burgers. Get all of the benefits of grass-fed meat without compromising quality.

Organic

We practice rotational grazing, in conjunction with sheep, to keep parasite loads low and remove the need for cattle dewormer (a standard pesticide given to both grain and grass-fed cows). We do not feed our cows antibiotics and they are never injected with artificial growth-hormone. It's everything you want with none of the things you don't.

Thoughtfully selected

American Milking Devons

Meet the American Milking Devon! The milking Devon is a classic American cow breed, raised by George Washington and others for ox power, beef, and milk. We chose Milking Devons for their ability to thrive and marble on grass alone. Like other breeds originally bred for use as oxen (such as a Waygu), the Milking Devon has a propensity to store fat within its muscles so that the muscles can be easily refuel while working. But where modern Waygu cows were bred to marble on grain, Milking Devons on marble on grass.

Our cows are rotationally grazed on a rather wild Appalachian mountainside eating their choice of grasses, legumes, forbs, shrubs, and even small trees (they seem partial to Black Walnut leaves). In the winter they are fed high-quality hay. They are never given artificial growth hormone, fed antibiotics, or dewormer; It’s pasture, hay, water, and minerals.

Frequently asked questions

Can’t find the answer you’re looking for? Send us an email at mountaintablefarm@gmail.com. We'd love to talk more.

Is your meat organically certified?

It is not. While our grass is not treated and we follow USDA standards for organic beef, USDA organic certification is unfortunately cost prohibitive for smaller family farms like ours. We do not spray on our property, we do not feed them antibiotics or any other presticide, and our animals are not injected with growth hormone. This is the food that we feed our children and we're commited to the safety and purity of our meat. We value your trust and you are always welcome to come and see for yourself.

Do you sell cuts not listed above?

We are happy to create a custom package for you, on request that can include less popular cuts like oxtail, offal, etc. Please contact us at mtntablefarm@gmail.com for more information!

Is your beef grass-finished?

Yes! Our beef are born, raised, and finished on pasture. They eat hay in the winter, but no grain. We believe this is the best thing we can do for the nutritional quality of our beef and the health of our herd.

Do you sell meat in smaller quantites?

Yes, we can sell by the cut on request; all of our meat is USDA processed and packaged. For amounts outside of our standard variety packages, please give us a call at (540) 251-2590 or send us an email at mtntablefarm@gmail.com.
